If you’re not an artist, sound editor, or animator (and you’re probably not one of those!), finding assets to use in your games can be a tedious, time-consuming, and expensive process. Unless you’re willing to pay for (or have a friend/partner willing to make you) custom assets, the next best thing is to look around for free and low-cost assets that you can design a game around. I suggest you find the artwork, sound, and animations you want to use in your game before building it, that way you’re not stuck changing game elements and themes, stretching/skewing images, and so on.
Here are some of my favorite sites for getting game assets:
- OpenGameArt - opengameart.org
- Deep Blue Apps - www.deepblueapps.com
- Sound Dogs - www.sounddogs.com
- nosoapradio - www.nosoapradio.us
